Are You a Lover of Champagne? This is a Trip for You…

There is something ever so decadent about staying in a beautiful chateau in the champagne region. Along with Épernay, Reims is the most important centre of the production of Champagne, the most celebrated wine in the world and an excellent place for exploring the Montagne de Reims Champagne Route.

Reims itself is 129 km north east of Paris and famous too for its spectacular Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Reims which boasts stunning architecture and is a superb model of gothic art. It has an important place in history too, having had 22 coronations in little over 1000 years. What we like too about Reims are the impressive boulevards, a lovely café and dining scene which include Michelin starred restaurants and many Romain remains to learn about.

But the best bit of our trip to Reims, by far, was a three night stay, with flawless service, at Château les Crayères, a mythical property in the heart of the city, but nestled discreetly in a seven hectare park. Spending time here is, without doubt, a memory worth having!

We had our very own exclusive tour and tasting at Champagne Bollinger and Champagne Billecart Salmon and was transported between the Houses in a vintage wooden cruiser along the river Marne whilst enjoying a sensational champagne lunch. It was nice to experience the vineyards from a different perspective and to be able to see local sights such as The De Castellane tower and the locks and dams in Cumières

Some of the best champagnes in the world are ones you may very well not have heard of – real hidden gems – and on this memorable trip you can also have tours and tastings at three Grand Cru Champagne Houses, with the obligatory platter of gourmet local delicacies – delicious!

On our last day we visited the home of Moët and Chandon, in Epernay and, as their special guests for the day, were treated to a private Dom Pérignon tour and tasting, visiting some of the oldest areas of the cellars, seldom visited by the public. Afterwards an exclusive Dom Perignon dinner was served in the mansion.

Other highlights included a very fun Sabrage teaching experience and dinner at triple Michelin-starred l’Assiette Champenoise;

All in all, a very special experience, especially when paired with a trip to Paris.
